Das Brausen von Oben … eine audiovisuelles Pfingstereignis
Pfingsten, das Fest des fünfzigsten Tages feiert den Geburtstag der Kirche.
Von Oben fährt der Heilige Geist, auf die Jünger herab und durchdringt sie.
Um die Vertreibung böser (winterlicher) Geister geht es auch im Volksglauben.
Mit multimedialen Mitteln inszenieren die Künstler Stefan Kraus und Marc Sauter
eine raumgreifende Licht- und Klangperformance in der kleinen Kirche von Süssenborn.
Mithilfe von Video- und Lichtprojektionen und Raumklang erwecken die Künstler den Raum zum leben
und tauchen mit den Zuschauer in eine abstrakte Interpretation des Pfingsterlebnisses.
Unterstützt von Pastor Dr. Hiddemann experimentieren die beiden Künstler mit Texten
der Bibel in verschiedenen Sprachen, die sie für eine abendliche Performance dramaturgisch Verdichten,
so daß die Kirche für einen Tag zu einem Atelier/Labor wird, dessen Forschungsergebnisse
abends präsentiert werden.
Marc Sauter und Stefan Kraus arbeiten gemeinsam an dem Projekt “Bauhausmaschine”
und gehören zu dem Medienkunstnetzwerk MXAV. Unterstützt werden sie dabei von dem Lichtgestalter HP Großmann.
As almost every year, the MXZEHN expirience was invited to play at one of the Backup Film Festivals club nights. After the first obligatory band (”hello weimar, we are …. and we rock” –> you wish ; ) the tables began to spin, MXZEHN VJs 34TR and optoyzMX began to rock (for real) and the audience danced til sunrise.
Two days later MX VJ Optoyz teamed up with The Vidness and Robert Genschorek to perform an audiovisual jam session with Tilman Porschütz at the Backup.Forum. Carried away by an enthousiastic audience, the artists confronted Tilmans improvised soundscapes with live painting in a vivid remix.
Back in Geneva! The Mapping Festival has established itself as one of the leading VJ festivals, and shows once more, that VJing is way more than people usually think. From 8th to 17th of May live video and audio artists from all over the world will present their work to the audience.
And they will meet a well educated public, as Geneva is also the home of many brilliant VJs and the poular Live Video Software Modul8.
Workshops, Live AV Performances, fassade projections and installation push the limits of interdisciplinary experimentation with digital media. And thanks to the roots in the VJ scene this happens in a very relaxed way, without the hyperimportant annoying artsy fartsy bla bla accompangying “media art” festivals, that don’t know the “streets” like the Mapping crew does.
So it’s a pleasure to be here, as the MXZEHN expirience was comissioned by the festival to build a videosculptre at the entrance to the BAC, folding around the stairs. In good neighborhood to an exhibition of german artist Gerhard Richter, Stefan Kraus, Marc Sauter and Haye Heerten built a threedimensional augmented virtuality installation from 3072 pixels, 4 audio chanels, cardboard, wooden lathes, hot glue and spax screws. Stefan Kraus will stay for the week of the festival and feed the sculpturs with impressions of Geneva, the BAC and the Mapping Festival. The sculpture thus becomes a reflection of the immediate past of the festival and it’s visitors. So if theres a guy behind several computers in a dark corner by the sculpture, it’s probably him - so don’t hesitate to let him show you the machinery behind the magic ; )
Istanbul - an obviously up and coming city (well - if it wasn’t there for ages ; ) was hosting 12 musicians from three nations (Turkey, France and Germany) to join for an (inter) cultural jam session. The curator, Katja Schäfer, comissioned MXZEHN to join in and add the visual component to this mix. After three days of warming up session in the studio of Tolga Tolun and his friends, the whole crew was jammed into the tiny stage of Dogzstar and started to rock. In addition to the typical MX-Madness marroccan photographer Fatima Mazmouz took pictures of never sleeping Istanbul, that got the MX treatment.

The “Mixer of Mass Destruction” was considered too dangerous by authorities and had to go through every security check available.
As it is impossible to fit all participants into the studio, the jams are organised in shifts…

Die Bauhaus Maschine ist eine mobile Ausstellungsperformance, die im Laufe des „Bauhaus Jahres 2009“ kontinuierlich wachsen wird. Die audiovisuelle Collage zeichnet das „Bauhaus in den Köpfen“ nach – die einzigartige Wirkungsgeschichte der einflussreichsten Designschule des 20ten Jahrhunderts. Die Installation passt sich dem bespielten Raum an und sammelt während der Ausstellung neues Material.
2009 jährt sich die Gründung des staatlichen Bauhaus in Weimar, der einflussreichsten Designschule des 20. Jahrhunderts zum 90sten Mal. Nicht nur in Weimar finden zu diesem Anlass zahlreiche Veranstaltungen, Ausstellungen und Symposien statt. Die Bauhaus Maschine ist eine interdisziplinäre, mobile und prozesshafte Ausstellung die im Laufe des Bauhaus Jahres kontinuierlich wachsen wird und die sich auf die Suche nach dem „Bauhaus in den Köpfen“ macht. Arbeiten, Statements und Experimente von Künstlern, Designern, Musikern und Architekten sollen ein Gefühl für die kontinuierliche Wirkungsgeschichte des „Bauhaus“ vermitteln, wie sie sich jenseits wissenschaftlicher Untersuchungen darstellt. Dabei geht es nicht um die nüchterne Dokumentation von Ereignissen sondern um die Verschmelzung verschiedenster Einflüsse, Aktivitäten und Ereignisse zu einer künstlerischen Collage.
Stefan Kraus und Marc Sauter haben bereits mehreren audiovisuellen Performances und Installationen zusammen entwickelt. Technischer Kern der Ausstellung ist eine Mediaserver Plattform, die es erlaubt Videoanimationen in Echtzeit über mehrere Ausgabegeräte hinweg zu erstellen und mittels Videoprojektoren und Goßbildmonitoren in bestehende Räume zu integrieren. Was sich technisch anhört ist in Wirklichkeit ein künstlerisches Werkzeug, das völlig neue Zugänge zu Bewegtbild und Audiocollagierung ermöglicht. Of zum Erstaunen des Publiums erweist sich das so entstehende „Bewegtbild“ als grundsätzlich verschieden von herkömmlichen filmischen Medien.

Die beiden Künstler besuchen Veranstaltungen, Ausstellungen, Workshops und Vorträge und samplen Bild- und Tonmaterial, das sie in einem kollaborativen Prozess weiterverarbeiten und kontinuierlich zur Erweiterung der Ausstellungsinstallation verwenden. Dabei geht es nicht um eine journalistische Aufarbeitung des stattgefundenen, sondern um die Exploration neuer Darstellungs – und damit Wahrnehmungsformen. Es ist der Versuch ein ganzheitliches, wenn auch nicht eindeutiges Bild von der Vielfalt, die das heutige Erbe des Bauhaus darstellen kann zu erarbeiten. Ebenso wie die Künstler wird auch die Bauhaus Maschine auf die Reise gehen. Die innovative Technik erlaubt den Auf- und Abbau der Ausstellung innerhalb weniger Stunden an nahezu jedem beliebigen Ort - nicht nur in Weimar oder Thüringen sondern weltweit. Gastspiele der Installation in Istanbul, Sao Paulo, Marseille, Genf, Wien, Den Haag und Tel Aviv sind im Gespräch.
Bauhausmaschine has played at many different events in the meantime:
Knowing, that a dry Powerpoint would hardly be enough to convince the jury of the city of Jenas eligibility to host the next “Landesgartenschau” (state gardening exhibition), the city asked an interdisciplinary team to put the Glashaus in Jenas “Paradies” park in scene with multiple installations inside the old minigolf ranges, lighting, an MXAV videoinstallation and food.
The lighting design was planned and realised by MXAV Lighting Designer Florian Licht. Stefan Kraus developped a 4 Screen videopanorama illustrating the beauty of the Saale valley.
When his brother David Schlaffke, a talented organist from Amsterdam asked Weimar based artist Markus Schlaffke if they would put Olivier Messiaens “Nativité” on stage in their childhood church in Mühlhausen, he was enthousiastic about the possibilities. Olivier Messiaen was known to be a synesthete and added descriptive colors to his compositions.
Markus developped a concept for a contemporary interpretation of the deeply religious work. Faced with the task to bring his vision into the neoromantic church of Mühlhausen he asked MXAV Artists Stefan Kraus and Florian Licht to support the production with their experience in spacial media and lighting design.
The concert was a huge success, the church was full to the last place and many of the parishioners were deeply moved by the combination of music, light and videoprojection that created a synesthete experience, previously unseen in Mühlhausen.
Once again h-boy, 34tr and ungi presented Studenten wir kriegen Euch! - the DNTs experimental party format at kesselsaal. Canan Yilmaz showed here thesis work “yarim can” - a staged video performance reflecting the introspective of a young migrant woman searching for identity between different homes. Familie Humbold made the transition from art-art to party-art easy and soon everybody was stepping to their beat. The evening climaxed into the night with a stunningly intense AV performance by long time collaborators Schleck&Stecker and the infamous MXZEHN VJ team.
Our beloved homebase, the Project- and Designworkshop Gaswerk celebrated 10 years of alternative cultural work and 100 years of it’s existance. Reason enough for MXZEHN to mash up approximately 6000 pictures into on 4096×768 animated collage, driven by an atmospheric soundtrack of Seltsam&Strahler.

The Bauhaus TransferzentrumDESIGN comissioned a seven screen video installation featuring the beauty of Thuringia land- and cityscapes as part of the countries booth at the EXPO Real fair at Munich. MX VJ optoyz realised the task using two synchronized MXWendler FX Server animating a panoramic collage of 170.000 Pixels in width.
